Choosing the best Lifeguard Umbrellas

You should consider many factors when you choose a lifeguard umbrella. Weather, the sun, and the wind play important roles in the wear and tear of an umbrella and, if you don’t buy a quality umbrella, you can find yourself replacing your umbrella frequently.

Weather resistance is one of the main things to look for when choosing an umbrella. The umbrella will be outdoors over long periods of time and must be able to withstand all types of weather such as intense storms or hurricanes.

A good umbrella is also able to turn and bend so that it is able to move with the sun. You wouldn’t keep the umbrella straight up or bent behind you while the sun is in your face would you? The umbrella should also have some sort of protection from the sun’s UV rays. Even though the umbrella provides you with shade, the UV rays are still able to penetrate through some materials and can cause the shade to be hot. Sometimes even hotter than when you’re standing in the sun. Prolonged exposure to the sun’s UV rays is also bad for your skin and can cause health problems. A good umbrella with UV ray protection is a good step in preventing any health problems.

Wind resistance is also a good thing to look for when deciding on what umbrella to purchase. Wind resistant umbrellas are double layered and have small holes in it that the wind is able to pass through. This is especially good when a storm blows in or it’s just a windy day in general because no one wants to go outside to find that their expensive lifeguard umbrella blew away or got destroyed because of the wind or a storm.

If it’s for a pool side life guard you should also check for chlorine resistance. Chlorine can be a rough chemical on certain fabrics and, if not chosen correctly, can damage your umbrella. If you’re by the beach try to choose one that salt won’t fade the color.

You also want to make sure that your umbrella is under some sort of warranty. Just because you bought an expensive umbrella doesn’t mean that it is indestructible. Good umbrella’s tend to come with a yearlong warranty which is good because this means that the manufacturer trusts that his product with last that long in any conditions.
