As we say, Safety First! Its not easy to work under the sun for up to 10 hours a day...
When it comes to the attire of the lifeguard, there is no question that lifeguard sunglasses are vitally important. While there are naturally going to be exceptions in which it is not necessary for a lifeguard to wear sunglasses, this is more of an exception, than anything resembling a rule. In the vast majority of situations and locations, the sun is an aspect to lifeguard work that must be considered on a number of different levels.
One such level involves the potential of the sun to interfere with the duties of a lifeguard. This is a very real possibility. Understanding this will establish a deeper understanding of why lifeguards should wear sunglasses. Beyond this fact, there are a number of important elements that you are going to want to keep in mind.
Should Lifeguards Wear Sunglasses?
To be sure, lifeguard sunglasses can also take your personal style into account. There is no question that while these sunglasses serve an extremely important function, in terms of your duties, this fact doesn’t mean you can’t appreciate the way sunglasses always lend one a certain sense of style. You can keep this in mind, when shopping for sunglasses for lifeguards. However, you are going to want to make sure you are still getting something that will meet the needs of a lifeguard.
Sunglasses for a lifeguard need to do at least two important things. In the first place, you are going to need something that will protect your eyes. Remember that lifeguards often have to spend a number of consistent hours under the blazing sun. This is why lifeguards should always wear sunscreen, but you also want to make sure your eyes are suitable protected, as well. This is where sunglasses become invaluable.
In the second place, you want something that will also allow you to perform your duties more efficiently. Polarized sunglasses can be enormously effective on that front. Reflected from sand or water, the glare created by sunlight can make lifeguard work a little problematic. Lifeguard sunglasses will eliminate that glare altogether. It will be easier to maintain situational awareness in regards to your job.
You also want to make sure you are purchasing sunglasses that are right for your sense of style. This is particularly true in the sense of making sure you have something that frames your face correctly. Your sunglasses should also be comfortable. After all, you are likely to be wearing them for several hours.

I dont need any WUSSY sunglasses, I can lifeguard blindfolded...... while playing the piano.....in the DARK!!! ALL LIFEGUARDS ARE PATHETIC AT WHISTLING!!!!! Even though I am a 36 year old woman, I can outblow all of you with my whistleblowing skills- I don't care if it's electronic, pea whistles, antique whistles, wooden whistles, large blackman whistles, dog whistles, using my fingers, or just whistling traditionally with LIPS ONLY. I have even won tournaments blowing several whistles AT THE SAME TIME. I have even been a judge several times and have seen all of you commit ERROR AFTER ERROR AFTER ERROR. I am the best and I can move mountains even if you meddle WHILE whistling at the same time. I live near Chicago and have friends and a big family that whistling runs in our blood. We are a gang at whistling tourneys and even outduel refs and umpires at sports events- we've been STALKED my men from Major League Baseball and the NFL. Youbetter remember the Name: LENA MARIE LINDBERG IS THE BEST BLOWER. I dare you to try me because I move mountains with me whistle blowing LITERALLY mountains. I need help turning pro though so I can move out of my parents house- if any of you on this site who isn't afraid of me, let me know if you sponsor. I will challenge ANYONE 9292862229 we can even meet at the Post Office on the South Loop on S. Clark Street in Chicago or at the Carol Stream Post Office. I have whistle battles at Post Offices near my parents home in Des Plaines. I'm ready whenever you are to whistle battle. safariassistant@gmail
